About Us

Here to help …

I’m Worried About Mum was set up by Sally Smith, an independent social worker with over 25 years’ experience. With Sally’s wealth of knowledge, love of supporting families who need it, and desire to help people live happier and more fulfilled lives, she has helped hundreds of families find more appropriate care solutions.

IWAM aims to not only support individual, privately funded families with their care questions and needs but also connects carers through local support groups and champions local businesses through its Care Directory.

Dementia and I’m Worried About Mum …

We specialise in our support for those with loved ones living with dementia.

Not only do we work to support local communities with understanding more about dementia and how to help those living with the disease but we also have extensive knowledge of how to support families with a loved one who has been diagnosed.

Please feel free to get in touch for some support.

Frequently Asked Questions …

We have compiled some of the questions we get asked most frequently to help you get a better understanding of how we can help you and your loved ones.

An independent social worker runs their own private practice, is governed by a regulatory body, Social Work England, and is expected to maintain their own continued professional development.

We don’t charge for an initial consultation to see if we can support your family. At that point we will be able to advise you on a cost for supporting you with your social work needs.

We can help all the family, not just mums. We work with adults of different ages and different physical and mental health conditions.

Yes, we can. You need to know what options for care are available before you can make an informed decision about what to do next. If both you and your mum want her to be back home, it needs to be safe and meet all her care and support needs and be sustainable longer term

There is lots of information on the website describing how we can help you; a short summary is listed below. Feel free to look at the testimonials from existing clients to see what kind of support they gained.

  • Immediate access to high-quality advice and information
  • Finding in-home care or residential accommodation
  • Sourcing home living support; personal care and assisting with medical appointments and medication, transport, social activities and companionship
  • Planning for future care, contingencies and crisis support
  • Completing risk assessments and independent social work assessments of care and support needs or mental capacity
  • Signposting legal and financial support
  • Social and health care professional liaison

Both are qualified and registered social workers, but we work directly with families with no referral process, we have access to a wide range of services and work with other independent professionals.

Each independent social worker only supports a small number of families at a time, so we can ensure we are able to be there when you need us most.

  • Working with you and enabling you to decide what’s best for your mum
  • Providing you with information and advice specific to your circumstances when you need it
  • Offering you emotional support and a listening ear when things feel tough
  • Helping you to claim the benefits which you are entitled to
  • Explaining the social care system and what you need to ask for
  • Looking at all the options for care and finding the right one for your loved one
  • Providing a completely independent and thorough social work assessment of your loved one’s care and support needs

We help a lot of families to communicate better with their council social worker so that they know what support is available, what the process is and how to ask for it without getting fobbed off. If your mum’s opinion is different from yours, it can be very useful to have independent people, such as us, involved to advise you.
