Along our care journeys, we come into contact with a lot of different people and services. Some provide a warm, safe space and help to make our lives easier. Others can leave us feeling worse than when we started out; not getting the level of care we asked for, carers being unreliable or unprofessional. There may be hidden costs or you may feel overcharged for the support delivered.

Whether you’re looking for a care home, tradesperson or financial advice, it’s important as a family carer that you use someone that you can trust to give you the advice and support you need. But how can you tell which businesses are going to be ok?

  • You can ask for recommendations from people you know and trust, who have used their service before
  • You can run their details in Trustpilot, to make sure they have a suitable number of positive reviews
  • You can find a number of useful products and services on our Care Directory

One big service we look for on our care journeys is the search for a suitable Care Home. I often talk to people about the best process for selecting a care home, as this is one of the bigger, more important decisions you need to make on behalf of your loved one.

It can feel extremely overwhelming. The pressure of keeping your loved one safe and happy at home can take up a lot of your time and energy, and moving them to a care home can feel like a huge decision, even if it is the right one for them and you. You need to know the costs involved and how to mange them.

I can support you in your journey. You need to know the options open to you for care and support, and to decide as a family if a care home is the right step for your loved one. You then need to find the most suitable home for your individual situation, somewhere that will be your loved one’s new forever home. You can find more information about how I can help here.

My final piece of advice for looking for useful products and services is, of course, to do your research and find someone who’s advice you trust to guide you. You know what’s best for your loved one, and get as much support as possible to help you along your journey.
